Dr. Suárez-Lastra holds a degree in Political Science and Public Administration from UNAM (FES Acatlán); Master of Urban Planning from the University of California, Berkeley; and a Ph.D. in Geography (with honors) by UNAM. He completed his postdoctoral work at the UNAM’s Center for Atmospheric Sciences, and is currently a full-time researcher and member of the National System of Researchers since 2008. His current line of research deals with urban structure and transport. He has participated in several projects with various government agencies that have given rise to 15 academic reports. From 2007 to date he has published 14 articles in refereed journals, 12 of them international. He is the lead author of two books, six chapters in national and one international book, as well as six maps in two Atlases. He has presented 27 papers in national and 15 foreign conferences. He is the author of indexed international journals and has participated in numerous outreach conferences. He is a tutor in postgraduate studies in Urbanism, as well as tutor and professor in postgraduate studies in Geography, both from UNAM. He was distinguished with the prize of the Mexican Academy of Sciences to the best thesis in Social Sciences, the Prize of the Academy of Geography of the Mexican Society of Geography and Statistics to the best PhD thesis in Economic Geography, and the Gustavo A. Prize Cabrera, from the “Colegio de México” to the best PhD thesis in Urban Studies.
