Associate Researcher, Research Center for Gender Studies at the National Autonomous University of Mexico

Dra. Alethia Fernández de la Reguera's work focuses on the study of gender-based subjectivities, bureaucracy, and violence at the Mexican southern border. She lectures the graduate Seminar “Qualitative Methodology for Social Research: Gender, Migration and Globalization” and, jointly coordinates with the Women's Studies Program of El Colegio de México, the Seminar “Contemporary Gender Debates”.  She holds a B.S. in International Relations from Tecnológico de Monterrey and an M.S. in European Studies from the University of Amsterdam.  She obtained her Ph.D. with honors in humanistic studies from Tecnológico de Monterrey, with a dissertation titled “Autonomy processes for decision-making of Mexican migrant workers returning from the U.S.”.  Currently, she is an elected member of the Conacyt-National System of Researchers (level 1) and leads a research program on gender and migration funded by the UNAM-PAPIIT program. Also, she collaborates at the UNESCO-Tec Chair on Ethics and Peace Studies.  Concurrently, she is a board member of the Institute for Women in Migration (IMUMI).
