Maria Fernanda Rosas Ramos
Visiting Graduate Student ( Fall 2024)

The College of Social and Behavioral Sciences (UA-SBS) at the University of Arizona welcomed María Fernanda Rosas Ramos, a master’s student in International Relations at UNAM’s Graduate Program in Political and Social Sciences, as a visiting scholar from October to mid-December 2024. Her academic residency was part of ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration promoted by SBS Mexico Initiatives.

Advancing Research on U.S.–Latin America Relations

María Fernanda’s research focuses on “The Interventionist Policy of the United States: An Obstacle to the Integration of Latin America and the Caribbean. The Case of the Pacific Alliance.” Her visit aimed to deepen her exploration of the historical and geopolitical dynamics shaping U.S.–Latin America relations and their impact on regional integration efforts. During her time at UA-SBS, María Fernanda undertook bibliographic exploration and took advantage of the University of Arizona’s extensive library resources to study topics such as regionalism, international cooperation, imperialism, political realism, Pan-Americanism, and Latin Americanism. She engaged with specialists offering both critical and institutional perspectives on the historical and political interactions between the United States and Latin America. María Fernanda attended relevant courses and conferences, enriching her understanding of the subject matter.

The residency at UA-SBS was pivotal in advancing María Fernanda’s thesis. She successfully integrated the information and insights gathered during her stay to enhance the first chapter of her research. Additionally, the knowledge she acquired will inform the development of the second and third chapters of her thesis, creating a comprehensive examination of her research topic.

María Fernanda’s visit exemplifies the fruitful academic exchange made possible by the UA-UNAM partnership. Her residency not only advanced her individual research but also underscored the shared commitment of both institutions to fostering interdisciplinary and binational scholarships.

As UA-SBS continues to host promising scholars like María Fernanda, these exchanges reaffirm the importance of collaboration in addressing pressing regional and global challenges through academic inquiry and shared expertise.
