Salma Nallely Colín Olmos
Visiting Graduate Student ( Fall 2025)

The College of Social and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Arizona welcomed Salma Nallely Colín Olmos, a graduate student in International Relations from UNAM, as a visiting research scholar from August 25 to December 19, 2025. Her residency, conducted under the supervision of Dr. Luis E. Coronado Guel, reflects the continued commitment to fostering academic exchange and collaboration between both institutions.

Advancing Binational Research on Intenational Security

During her time at the University of Arizona, Colín Olmos carried out a rigorous research agenda focused on regionalism, international cooperation, and geopolitics, with particular emphasis on transnational governance in the Arizona–Sonora region and the historical dynamics of Mexico–U.S. relations. Her work began with an extensive bibliographic exploration of specialized collections at the university’s libraries, allowing her to identify and systematize key sources that strengthened the theoretical and methodological foundations of her research.

In addition to her independent research, she actively participated in academic seminars, conferences, and specialized events, engaging with diplomats, scholars, and experts who provided both critical and institutional perspectives on issues such as arms trafficking in the Arizona–Sonora region and its broader implications for bilateral relations. As part of her research methodology, she designed and conducted academic interviews, later analyzing the findings using qualitative research tools to deepen the analytical scope of her project.

Building on this work, Colín Olmos developed a comparative analysis of her bibliographic findings alongside the insights gathered from interviews. This process led to the drafting and refinement of a substantial academic chapter addressing the historical background and context of her research topic, completed in coordination with her primary advisor.
