Fabricio Xutill Bahena Pérez at UA-SBS

The College of Social and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Arizona hosted Fabricio Xutill Bahena Pérez, a doctoral student from UNAM, as a visiting research scholar from September 2 to October 20, 2025. His residency, conducted under the supervision of Dr. Luis E. Coronado Guel, reflects the continued strength of academic collaboration between the two institutions.

Bahena Pérez is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Political and Social Sciences with a concentration in Sociology at UNAM’s Graduate Program in Political and Social Sciences, under the advise of Dr. Fernando Vizcaíno Guerra. His research project, titled “Crisis and Reconfiguration of the Intellectual Network in Mexico: From the First Declaration of the Lacandon Jungle to the Fourth Transformation (1994–2018),” examines the evolution of intellectual and political discourse in contemporary Mexico.

During his 59-day residency at the University of Arizona, Bahena Pérez successfully completed the activities outlined in his research plan, focusing on gathering key information for his doctoral dissertation. His work included consistent field research, as well as complementary academic activities such as attending relevant university courses as an auditor and engaging with scholarly resources on campus.

Throughout his stay, he demonstrated strong commitment to his research objectives, advancing the development of his dissertation through systematic data collection and academic engagement. His presence at UA-SBS contributed to the broader exchange of ideas and reinforced the importance of cross-border scholarly collaboration in the social sciences.

Fabricio Xutill Bahena Pérez’s visit highlights the value of international academic mobility and the role it plays in supporting rigorous, globally informed research.
